I don’t really have a specific reason why, but I wanted to have my own image hosting for my Twitter account. There are several clients for iOS that now allow you to have a custom API endpoint for image/video uploading. The concept is simple, I just got tired of using the same ones, like TwitPic and yFrog. There is nothing pretty about this site but it works and that’s what I was going for.

If you would like to use this service open up your client that supports custom API endpoints. My favorite clients are Twitter for iPhone and TweetBot. Navigate to your account settings and select your image upload service. The example below is a screenshot from Twitter for iPhone.

Then type in the API endpoint for my site, which is http://jpic.me/api/ . You have to include the trailing forward slash (/).

Now all you have to do is make your posts like you normally would. Once you compete your post your image URL will show in your post like http://jpic.me/Q48PwO. Like I said there is nothing pretty about this service, but it does work and its FREE to use. Alternately if you cannot have a custom API from your client you can always use the desktop version at jPic.me . This part I will work on when I get time, right now its a simple upload form that generates your link once its submitted.

If you decide to use this service please feel free to give me suggestions in the comments on what you would like to see added or removed.

This is going to be a new piece I will be blogging about, called My Rules of Life. The concept of this piece is simple, inform readers of my findings in life.

Rule #1 – Never substitute duct tape and a cotton ball for an adhesive bandage.

The other week I had got a small little cut on my hand. I went about a day without putting anything on it, but I noticed it started getting sore because I was using that part of my hand more than I originally predicted I would.

I started going through the bathroom cabinets and I was not having any luck finding any Band Aids*. Being from the South, I always have a roll of duct tape laying around. To me a Band Aid pretty much seemed like a piece of tape and a little piece of cotton. Pretty simple concept, so I decided to tear off a piece of duct tape and tear off a small piece of cotton from a cotton ball. I put some NEOSPORIN on the cut and covered it with the makeshift Band Aid. At this point I bragged a little bit about how creative I am about making this little bandage, but little did I know the next morning was going to be a completely different story.

I wake up the next day, and noticed that the bandage was still sticking to my hand like a champ. I decided to take the tape off and let my hand air out a little. I don’t know if I got the best most expensive kind of duct tape or someone pranked me and put super glue under the tape that night. Either way, that tape was not wanting to come off. I remembered what I was always told when I was younger, the faster you rip it off the quicker the pain will go away. Let’s just say I basically gave myself a free hand waxing, I ripped every little bit of hair off the top of my hand. I honestly think I pulled the top layer of skin off too.

The thing I learned from this experience, either go buy some Band Aids or use less sticky tape.

*Where I come from I always refer to products by their most popular named brand, for example I call small adhesive bandages, Band Aids.

Nothing is more frustrating to me than when something messes up on me and I can’t find a fix for it. That was the case a few months ago when I got this error “Unable to Download Application” on my iPhone. If I want an app I like having the option of downloading Over The Air via my iOS device. With this error message, it is basically telling me that I must connect my device to my computer and download the app via iTunes and then sync. That is fine if you are always around your computer, but the majority of us will find this to be frustrating and a bit behind time in the growing technology world.

I have searched all over the internet for a quick fix, and I was never able to find anything that would actually work for me. Every solution ended with a complete restore of the device. So the first time this happened a few months ago that’s what I had to do was a complete restore of my iPhone. This is not a solution that I was going to settle for again, very time consuming and can be quite a headache sometimes. Once again the same thing has happened to me, I started getting this pop up error message while trying to download an app through Apple App Store.

This time I was not going to settle for simply just restoring my device. I am about 100 percent sure that my device got messed up when I tried to download a .deb file through Safari and install it via iFile. Once i tried to install the file, it failed so I deleted the corrupted .deb file and tried to download a new app through the Apple App Store and that is when i got the error message. I started searching the internet with the error message, I found some posts with what some people said fixed their issues, but none worked for me. Here are some of the things that I tried, after each attempt I would try to download an app and it would continue to fail.

I rebooted my iPhone.

I signed out of my iTunes account on my iPhone and signed back in.

I got on my computer that my iPhone is synced to and signed out of my iTunes account on there and signed back in.

I deauthorized my computer with my iTunes account and reauthorized it.

I went to Options > Safari and changed “Accept Cookies” to Always.

I opened SB Settings and ran Fix User Dir Permissions.

None of the above solutions worked for me. After running the Fix User Dir Permissions, it made me start thinking that it could be a permissions problem. I started looking through my files and directories under /var/mobile/. All the permissions looked like they were set properly until I checked the /var/mobile/Media/Downloads/ directory. The owner:group was root:mobile instead of mobile:mobile.

This is the default directory that I have Safari Download Manager set to save downloaded files. When I downloaded that corrupted .deb file from Safari and tried to install it, somehow it must have changed the permissions on that Downloads directory. I have got the assumption that Apple App Store uses this directory to download files before installing them. Seeing as the default user is “mobile” on the iPhone it cannot write to a directory that is owned by “root”. Once I changed the ownership of this directory I went back to the App Store and tried to download a new app. I still got the message below for the first app I tried to download, I hit OK and the app continued downloading and installing. After the first app I downloaded I did not receive this error message anymore and now all is back to normal. This might not work for everyone else, but this worked for me and I am just glad I did not have to do another restore to fix this problem.
